Two New Bridges on Great Barrier Island
Bridge It NZ recently completed the construcion of two bridges for a site near Rosalie Bay Road, Great Barrier Island. The client commented: "I have been totally impressed with the job you have done here. A big thank you to the whole team", said owner of the property Derek Bell.
The bridges are 12m span x 4m wide with thermal sprayed steel beams and Timber non-climbable handrails. Both bridges are designed to the Transit Bridge Manual 0.85HN load capacity capable of a maximum 7.5 tonne single axle load and maximum 15 tonne dual axle load suitable for fully laden road legal truck and trailers.
Client Derek Bell said that logistics were the main issue because of the difficulty in getting things to the Barrier. The fact that everything required for the job appeared on the scene all in one go and then the bridges were constructed in just 5 or 6 days each is what he calls fantastic. He also mentioned that the consenting process was smoothly handed over to Tiaki to manage. Tiaki Engineering is our partnering company for Engineering Design and Consent applications.
"I needed a bridge-building process that would overcome all the logistic hurdles associated with being on an island in the Hauraki Gulf. Bridge It NZ delivered two bridges on their truck via the car ferry along with all the service equipment required. The two bridges were then installed over a three-week period, with local contractors helping with earthworks. There were no issues or problems and their crew were friendly and efficient, working long days through weekends and bad weather. In addition, Bridge It NZ and Tiaki Engineering managed the resource consent application – relieving me of that particularly frustrating job. Overall – an excellent outcome with two strong, attractive bridges built in quick time."
