66m & 45m Bridges for Royal Auckland & Grange Golf Club

The brief to Bridge It NZ was to design and construct a bridge connecting two amalgamated golf courses - the Royal Auckland and Grange Golf Clubs. A 66.5m x 3.6m multi-span bridge was needed to take pedestrians and their golf carts from one part of the course to another and to provide access for greenkeeper maintenance vehicles specific to the course.    

The bridge spans an environmentally delicate coastal marine reserve of mangroves and tidal flats on the Tamaki River so weekly monitoring inspections by Auckland City Council were conducted. On every inspection the highest possible score was achieved for a job that had stringent resource consent parameters including consideration for the ecology of flora and faunas well as high voltage power lines overhead.

Gavin Cormack, former Chief Executive of Beca and Royal Auckland and Grange Golf Club Captain at the time the bridge was built, was delighted with the outcome of the job: “The life of the bridge is important for us, so is the 100 year expected design life -  probably longer. We’re satisfied with the quality of the product, and with Bridge It’s background and experience, it met our requirements, and it was the cheapest”.
